“When written in Chinese the word ‘crisis’ is composed of two characters – one represents danger and the other represents opportunity.” – John F. Kennedy
TRUE … and False.
JFK did say it, however it is actually NOT true. The word crisis is NOT composed of two Chinese characters meaning danger and opportunity.
However, for the sake of this post, let’s pretend the concept is true. It IS a challenging time almost everywhere in the world, but I’ll skip the motivational post and go straight for the thought-provoking query. If that JFK quote is the question, what is your answer? How you will take advantage of the “opportunity” this time presents? Many of us are in “stay put” mode at home, and are limited to going out only for work and essentials (like groceries). This has created some free time, and with the additional social restrictions in place, many of us have a bit more “me” time than we may know what to do with. While I extend sincere apologies to the parents trapped at home with young children (or even worse, their adult children home from college), the rest of us have had a bit of time to do some soul searching and, when not looking inward, may be planning to take this additional free time to set some goals and turn the craziness of this pandemic into a multitude of opportunities.
First, I decided to try to undertake the following goals for the month of April:
- Writing at last one personalized card, note or letter to a friend I care about each week
- Clearing out the snow that is built up in my cul-de-sac so that I can use the meditation labyrinth in the middle
- Drinking more water
It is not a lofty list, but if I start small, I can find little (and easy) victories, and those small victories can now into big accomplishments. Check back in with me to see how the month went…
In the meantime, how will you be step outside your comfort zone and into opportunity?
