Do you remember that old rhyme?
“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”…?
It’s not true, of course. Words have power– more than we can possibly imagine.
Remember, God spoke, and the world came into being.
Words have started wars and ended relationships.
Words have brokered peace and incited violence.
Words have broken hearts and lifted spirits.
How we wield words says more about us than those we speak to and those we speak of.
How will you use your words?
Will you speak hate, or love?
Will you encourage, or discourage?
Will you edify, or demoralize?
Will you answer change if you know that you will reap what you sow?
We must choose whether we will bless (a life-giving act) with our words, or curse (bring death- [physical, emotional or spiritual) with our words.
And with every word that comes out of our mouth, we identify who we are, what we believe, and what we value.
Our character is reflected in our words.
We should choose them wisely.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.
