Although I had been to Dallas a scant a scant six months earlier, the labyrinth at Northaven United Methodist Church, located at 11211 Preston Rd.; Dallas, Texas was one I had not yet walked. Consequently, I was pleased to be able to walk it on this trip. In addition to this being a new labyrinth to walk, I was sharing the experience with my ex-husband, Alan, who was living in Dallas at the time.  I’d stopped over to visit him on my travels there, and since he was curious about my labyrinth walks, I invited him to accompany me to a few, and he accepted.  These are my lessons from that walk, which occurred on 6/5/2022 around 3:30 p.m.

The Northaven UMC Labyrinth is located on the south side of the building at the end of the parking lot by the red bike rack. And although this labyrinth was open to the public, we had to contact the church to obtain the access code to get through the security gate.

Time and perspective are both great healers

These are wise words, but still (for me) difficult to internalize and embrace at this juncture in my life.

How about you?

Do not deny your heart when it’s part of God’s plan for you.

Be patient and kind when you’re dealing with people’s hearts…

including your own.

Sometimes we are really patient with others, but not with ourselves.
Sometimes we do a really good job of extending grace to others, but we won’t extend that same grace to ourselves.

I know this… I have experienced this… I am living this RIGHT NOW.

And yet, even with this reminder, I still find it difficult to be patient with myself, to show myself grace – to remind myself that living this very human experience is difficult, but that I am NOT alone in the experience, even when it feels that way.
