26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
There are days when life just seems… too hard.
Unrelenting, unwavering, inflexible. HARD.
And when things get hard, it’s difficult to know how to respond. For that reason, I’ve always envied toddlers for the shameless way they can collapse on the floor- into either a full tantrum or full surrender. And it is often ‘touch & go’ until they hit the floor– you never quite know which way they are going with their meltdown until it actually occurs.
They don’t have the words to express themselves- the overwhelm is simply too great.
And to that, I say, “Same here, little one. Same here.”
Unfortunately, I can’t collapse into a tantrum or full meltdown and expect the same level of social acceptance.
So, what to do? What to do?
Well, if you’ve already hit the (metaphorical) floor, immerse yourself in this scripture:
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
Whether you are on the floor or not, (literally or figuratively), when you don’t have the words, this scripture offers the assurance that even though we don’t have the words, God hears us. He hears our cries, mumbles, wails, and groans. The beauty of divine love is that he has provided a helper, an intercessor, a voice to be heard when we don’t have the words. He IS listening, so cry out, however you need to. He understands the unspoken words.
Oh, and one last recommendation: Yield. Abdicate. Acquiesce. Submit. Surrender.
Not to the overwhelm or the emotion.
To Him.
After all, it’s a lot easier to help the one who has surrendered than it is to help a stiff, unyielding, tantruming toddler. Just sayin’.
