Lessons from a Labyrinth Walk walk on 9/23/2021.
“How many times have I already told you that?!”
Familiar words, right? Having to say something repeatedly is… annoying, to say the least.
After all, I was THAT parent – the one who warned my kids that “If I have to repeat myself, it will not end well for you.”
It is annoying, irritating, and just plain aggravating to have to repeat myself.
Surprise, surprise! Suddenly, it’s my turn to be told some things repeatedly, because (apparently) the message was just not getting through to me….
Are you listening this time (Sheli), because I don’t want to have to repeat myself!
Time has its own agenda
It’s not the first time I’ve heard this message – it also came up in a prior walk.
This was my reminder that there is a season for everything, and things happen in their own due time.
Sometimes it’s not for anyone else to understand
Some lessons and experiences are meant as solo learning ventures. Others are not meant to understand your journey, nor is it their place to pass judgment.
Once I had been “reminded” of the lessons I had been previously taught, my walk moved into new territory and different lessons…
1. Hope is a choice
Faith and hope are inexorably intertwined.
Both involve trust. Both carry the spirit of encouragement. Hope is the embodiment of optimism and expectation for a positive outcome.
Choose hope.
2. What is supposed to happen WILL happen; yet it cannot be forced.
What will be, will be.
Another way of putting it would be to say “Everything will work out the way it’s supposed to in the end.”
3.. There’s nothing you need to do to make it happen.
Stop trying to orchestrate things to get the results you desire.
If it is meant to be (whatever IT is), there is no stopping it (or speeding up the process). Your “assistance” is not needed.
(Is that a polite enough way of saying, “Butt out!”?)
