Today’s labyrinth lessons came from a labyrinth walk I did on December 3, 2021 at the Dallas College Richland Campus, located at 12800 Abrams Road; Dallas, Texas 75243.
Located just north of Fannin Hall on the campus of Dallas College Richland campus, this was one of the larger labyrinths I have had a chance to walk. It was also one of the few I found that had rocks with words painted/written on them as part of the labyrinth walk experience.
It sat as a destination unto itself.
“Stuff” is going to happen in the most unlikely and unwelcome places
Perfect timing doesn’t always look the way we expect it to. It can, in fact, look like the worst possible timing.
Oftentimes, it is only in retrospect that we realize that the timing was exactly WHEN it needed to be.
Those moments of challenge and hardship are unwelcome and inconvenient because they happen in times and places that we we would never consider ideal.
Get used to it. Accept it. Even try to embrace it, because the reality is this: Our lives are not about perfect timing and optimal outcomes.
It is LIFE, after all.
Sometimes we travel a long way only to find out that we already had what we were looking for all along…
Hindsight is 20/20. It can be humbling to look back and realize that what previously seemed elusive was actually right there with you.
Sometimes we foolishly believe that ‘the grass is greener on the other side’.
People jump from one thing to another- be it a job, relationship, vehicle, house… thinking that something else is better than what they currently have.
How often do we we look back with fondness and nostalgia when we remember the old jalopy that looked a little rough, but had great gas mileage and almost never broke down?
The shiny new truck looks great and might even make others envious, but it eats gas and comes with 72 months of loan payment and increased insurance premiums.
The old zero lot line house sometime felt small and cramped, and we were THRILLED to ‘upgrade’ to something bigger.
The new house IS bigger, but it doesn’t have the friendly neighbors who always looked out for you and your family. The desire was more space for your family, but all that space allowed gulfs to grow between you when everyone retreated to their own space, rather than coming together as family.
Sometimes we discover too late, that what we really wanted, we already had.
Praying for those you love is as much about your obedience to God as it is about your love for others and your hope and faith for their healing.
Scripture says; Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Phillipians 4:6 ESV)
I believe that prayer has power. But I admit that there are times where I feel like my prayers carry no weight, power, or influence on God. On those occasions, prayer is a real struggle for me. It’s much easier to pray when I see the results of those prayers immediately.
This revelation was my reminder that when my love and hope are not enough impetus for me to pray, it will be my obedience to God that brings me before him in prayer.
Throughout the duration of this walk, the phrase “faith, hope & love; but the greatest of these is love” kept resonating in me in my ears.
As important as I know they are, I really struggled with holding on to them on this day.
First Corinthians, right? And the greatest of these is love… ❤
