Silly Sheli thought a brief “power nap” would do some good…. that power nap stretched to 7 hours, and I missed the chance to explore Johannesburg.
I should have gone out with Meredith, who cuddled a baby lion today! So, here are a few pics from life around the hotel….

The hotel is gated with an electric fence and you have to be buzzed in and out. It’s quite nice, but reasonably priced, and I enjoyed getting to know the other team members. There are about 26 of us in all, and I was the only one (at our table of eight) during dinner who was a first-timer to these international builds. Several have built in other countries on other teams that Leslie and Bob have led in the past and it was fun to watch them reunite. Yay for the amazing new friends I am already making!

We had a nice dinner next door at the The Tin Goose restaurant in the Aviator Hotel. My dinner was 110 South African Rand, which is about $7.50 USD. I enjoyed Creamy Basil Pesto Chicken and an Appletizer to drink (sparkling Apple cider). Yummy!

I *think* we passed several “ladies of the evening” on the brief 1/2 block walk between the restaurant and our hotel. It was so very sad to see, especially since I believe these “ladies” were really just girls. I suspect they were in their late teens and early twenties.

We worked on some Visa paperwork a bit tonight and now we’re off to bed. Tomorrow is another travel day— it’s about a 2-2.5 hour flight to Lilongwe, Malawi, followed by a couple/few hours by bus to settle into Salima.
More pics and adventures ahead! Hugs to you all!
