The Chosen television series has taken the Christian world by storm. People of faith from all over the world are watching in wonder. I am one of them. You should be, too.
Not a Christian? That’s ok. Keep reading.
The Chosen is a seven series television show about the life of Christ, as seen through the eyes of the people who knew Him.
At the time of this writing, seasons one and two have ended, with over 100 million views.
The series is being entirely crowdfunded and the first five episodes of season three have been successful crowd-funded.
It has been viewed over 100 million times.
As someone who is constantly wrestling with my faith, watching this show has repeatedly forced me to examine the source of my doubts and fears. It’s asks that I decide, over and over, whether I will choose to have faith, or fear.
Faith, like hope, is a funny thing. It displaces doubt. It cannot exist where this is certainty. And as much as it can be empowering, it can also be frightening.
When something frightens us, we generally fall back to the “fight or flight” response.
With matters of faith, that may manifest in multiple ways- some people steer as far as they can from anything that is “faith” related. Others will argue about the futility or foolishness of faith.
I’m not here to speak on either. But I do encourage you to stop long enough to consider what could happen if you faced this fear. Watching this TV series is a great place to start.
One episode – Watch just one episode, for “research” purposes.
The reality. The fear.
The doubt. The greed.
There is suffering. There is joy. And hypocrisy.
In short- I enjoy it for the humanity.
Though I know many (but not all) of the bible stories depicted in the episodes I’ve watched so far, I’ve still been entranced watching them unfold. The series brings the stories to life, but more importantly, it shows the truth of our humanity, and the humanity of Christ.
We are not now, nor were we then, always rational or clear-headed. There are disagreements among friends, and betrayals and rivalries abound. Things are not perfect and not everything goes as planned, even in the life of Christ and his followers.
At no time does the show stray from the truth of who we are and how we behave as people.
Look, here’s the bottom line: Whether you are a person of faith or not, this is a show not to be missed. so, Check it out. Here.
