Session 15: Truth & Honesty

In this session, we had some frank conversations about the difference between truth & kindness, and brutal honesty.

It was another humbling, but necessary session for me.

Truth & Kindness is when you speak in truth & honesty out of love – with the goal of encouraging someone.

Brutal Honesty is when you speak truth with the purpose of discouraging or hurting someone.

The emotional center of the brain will win the war against the rational part of your mind

Truth and kindness offers the opportunity for closeness and connection, whereas brutal honesty creates hurt and division.

Before you speak, pause, take a breath, examine your motives, and ask yourself what you hope to accomplish.

How we speak to people says more about us than it does about them.

Ephesians 4:15

15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
